Tree Pollen and Allergies

Tree Pollens
When it comes to trees, the real allergy troublemakers are hardwood deciduous trees — oak, elm, birch, maple, ash, alder and hazel:
  • These trees generally pollinate from February to April or May.
  • In the South, these trees begin pollinating as early as January; in the North, they begin in April.
  • People show cross-reactivity to trees in the beech, birch, alder and oak family, and in the juniper and cedar family. This means that if you're allergic to one type of tree, you're likely allergic to others in the same family.
  • If you're looking to plant trees on your property, look for species that do not aggravate allergies, such as catalpa, crepe myrtle, dogwood, fig, fir, palm, pear, plum, redbud and redwood trees.

Free Progress Cards

This might be a simple idea, but Oh how it would work well for children. Instead of simply telling children to improve, Progress Cards help them learn exactly what is necessary to get better results. When they see their incremental progress over time, it encourages them to continue instead of what most people do--quit due to their frustration of not instantly meeting their goal. Teaching children how to stick to their goals and seek delayed gratification is a crucial life lesson. ............ ............ One Hand, Two Hands by Max Lucado doesn’t disappoint. Upon arrival, I sat down and read it with my daughters. My eldest being in second grade, it was age appropriate for her reading level. While reading, she was able to make a lot of personal connections to the writing and she loved the illustrations by Gaby Hansen. Written in rhyme, it is not a lengthy read but a meaningful read. And one that little hearts and hands can relate too as well as see how they can have servant hearts and hands too.

Mommy Cards

Mommy Cards are just a great idea for many reasons. Use them when you go on play dates to share your info with other mommies. Leave them for the baby sitter so they can easily contact your cell phone number. Another idea would be for when you purchase an item and they are going to deliver it, leave a mommy card and they will never have trouble reading your handwriting again! And, don't forget to place them in your child's school backpack, if they can't remember your contact information, it is always close at hand!

Preparing for School Mornings

The preparation for school mornings actually begins the day before as they get off the bus. Their backpack will contain any homework they need to do. Set aside a regular time and place for homework to be accomplished. Do not allow other activities until this is completed. However, it shouldn't be the first thing they do when they enter the door. They will need some down time and probably a snack. Give them time to transition. more...
