Internet in the classroom

As a teacher I am supposed to always be aware of how my students are behaving, to always know what is going on in the classroom. One of the most important areas is internet use in the classroom. It is important for me to teach my students about the internet and have them learn to use it appropriately. There are some sites that are blocked on the school computers but the blocks can't catch everything. Of course it isn't a huge problem if I send my students to the computer to research their favorite TV show and they end up on www.Expertsatellite.com, but if they type 'boobs' into a Google search engine then pictures will most likely pop up. As the teacher in the classroom I am responsible for what they see on the internet in my classroom. I have to be very careful and be close by when they use the computers. This may not be the case with older students, but I teach third graders and they would be scarred if they saw inappropriate pictures on the computer.

This summer I took on way too many hard projects around the house. It was just a little bit crazy. I think that my biggest mistake was probably trying to build a deck on the back of our house by myself. That took about every free moment that I had this summer and I just now wrapped it up last weekend.

I've been in the mood for a home project that won't require too much work on my part, so I went online to look up some info on help for that kind of stuff. I found the site homeproimprovement.com and after I looked through that some I decided to use them to install our new windows.

Our windows have been drafty for a few years now and we decided that we should just replace them instead of playing a higher power bill. So that's exactly what we're having done in one week. I think those extra bucks that we might save with widows that don't heat the outdoors will definitely be welcome around the holidays.

One Hand, Two Hands by Max Lucado doesn’t disappoint. Upon arrival, I sat down and read it with my daughters. My eldest being in second grade, it was age appropriate for her reading level. While reading, she was able to make a lot of personal connections to the writing and she loved the illustrations by Gaby Hansen. Written in rhyme, it is not a lengthy read but a meaningful read. And one that little hearts and hands can relate too as well as see how they can have servant hearts and hands too.

The information is usable as an outlined plan for change for those not knowing where to start or how to change. Book Review - "Rick and Bubba's Big Honkin' Book of Grub"

I will admit, when offered to review “Rick and Bubba’s Big Honkin’ Book of Grub”, I had never heard of Rick and Bubba. For those of you like me, they are radio personalities. I thought, given the images of food on the cover, I was going to be reviewing a cookbook. Don’t get me wrong, there are recipes thrown into this publication. They are sprinkled lightly throughout a truly hilarious collection of opinions about food. I knew Rick and Bubba were my kinda folks when their first choice for “Where we Eat” section of the book was the Church Supper! Followed up by “Where we Eat – Part II”, and first place went to the Cracker Barrel. This is a book you don’t have to read from cover to cover, you can enjoy reading a section, put it down and enjoy another part of the book at another reading. Given the hilarity of this book, I am going to have to look up Rick and Bubba’s radio show. My recommendation – it’s enjoyable, not necessary but there are things in life that are not necessary and they are meant to be enjoyed! Book Review - "The Flowering Cross"

I recently received "The Flowering Cross" by Beth Ryan to review. I read it to my girls, age seven and four, tonight at bedtime. The girls were excited to the reading. They were engaged, entertained and easily followed along, understanding the meaning of the story.

"The Flowering Cross" is an Easter story about a little girl and her next-door neighbor whom she brings to church. It was a touching story. I have to admit, I got a bit choked up by the end of the book seeing the power of God’s ability to use a little girl to bring an old man to Christ.

The book includes scriptures, Faith Imprints which are suggestions on how parents can share God’s word, and instructions for making a flowering cross.

My daughters asked if we could make a flowering cross too!

"The Flowering Cross" would make a lovely Easter gift for any young child.

The Craft Map - A New Venture

I have been busy with a new venture. In the past few days, I have been altering and uploading files and testing links for a new site. I have created The Craft Map. It is a site where people connect with crafts. It is free to enter your blog. After review, your blog will be added to the map. You can use the map to connect with others in your area or others who create crafts of the same media. Hopefully it will provide you with another avenue to advertise your blog and crafting.

The concept, while fantastic, I will admit was not mine. I borrowed it from Bargain Briana. She created a similar site called the Frugal Map for couponing, savings and shopping. I asked her if I could use the same idea for a craft map and she graciously agreed.

I just found a new way to find coupons online. It is actually a browser toolbar that you download and install into your browser. Once I did it, I could search through four different collections of grocery coupons.

Using the Free Coupon link I can find Printable Grocery Coupons (this is the four collections), Store Coupons, Printable Coupons, Free Samples, and Catalogs.

Using the Online Shopping link I can find Coupon Stores, Categories, Services, Daily Deal, and WILD. There is also a community with a blog to share your shopping finds and utilize what others have found to assist you in saving money. While this is new to me, I have already benefited from using it on my weekend shopping trip to the grocery store. I am by no means a super coupon shopper yet, but, I did save over 50 dollars this weekend!
